FRENCH TRIBUTE.

TO THE IK ALLIES, THE ENGLISH;

Recently the New Zealand Government m formed the Government of Oceania, through the British Consul at Tahiti, tha^. no charge would be made for the accommodation of the French soldiers who passed through here en route for the war. A letter has now been received from M. Julien, Governor of the French settlement of Oceania, as follows :— "By letter of to-day's date (July 3, 1916) you have been so good as to advise me that His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand has decided that the administration of this colony should not request the French Government to reimburse the cost of keeping the Tali itian soldiers who disembarked from tho steamer Flora on the occasion of tlioir sojourn m English territory. "Your letter adds that the Dominion Government has pleasure m rendering m slight a service to such valiant Allies. The French Consul at Auckland had already informed me of this generous intention, and with him I shall not fail to inform the Government of tho Republic how much the colony, of which I am the head,. and the whole of France, are grateful to our noble and glorious Allies for the generosity of u-hiob' wo are receiving ench touching proofs.
