RECOVERY IN RECRUITING.

(Special to tho Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A belated recovery in recruiting for tho 14th- Reinforcements has been mado by the Canterbury military district. Last week the position was really bad, the net shortage for the infantry branch being 107. By yesterday the infantry shortage had been reduced as follows:— Christchurch area group, shortage '24; Timaru, 6; Kaiapoi, 6;. Greymouth, 2s.Nelson has, however, promised to provide 15 men to reduce deficiencies in other group areas, so that the net shorir are is now 44. It is confidently anticipated that the Christchurch area group will be able to maintain its recovery, and even at the eleventh hour provide the quota required for the 14th Rein- ' forcements.
