(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The annual report of the South British Insurance Company states : The premium revenue / amounts to £553,296 11s 2d; the income from interest and rents received and accrued is £42,898 4s Idtotal, £596,194 15s 3d. After making full provision for losses there is a surplus m the underwriting account of £67,116 3s Id. To the income from interest and rents, £42,898 4s Id, has to be added the balance from August, 1914 (Less dividend paid .m October, 1914), £37,060 15s sd, making the amount at the credit of the profit and loss account £147,075 2s 7d. This has been dealt with m the following manner : Interim dividend of 2s 3d per share paid m April, 1915,' £22,500, transferred to reserve fund, £20,000; investment fluctuation fund, £20,000; Auckland leasehold sinking fund, £225 ; contributions to officers' provident and superannuation fund, £4740 5s lid, total £67,665 5s lid, leaving £79,409 16s Bd. The directors now recommend the payment of a dividend of 2s 3d per share for the half year ended August 31, 1915 (making the total distribution for the year 4s 6d per share), wiiich will absorb £22,500. The payment of a bonus to the staff will absorb £8500. This leaves to be carried to the new account, £48,409 16s Bd. Sharemarket sales : Auckland gas, 29s ; reported "Waini, 38s 9d. HAWERA, this day. At the inquest touching the death of James Parrish, of Whakamare, who was found dead m his bedroom, a verdict of death through misadventure was returned. WELLINGTON, last night. Frederick Butterworth, a middle-aged man, formerly employed at t/he Gear Company's works at Petone, shot himself this afternoon under pathetic circumstances. About a month ago his wife died, and since then the man has been very despondent. To-day he appeared at the Petone Working Men's Club, of which he was a member, and after spending about an hour there, part of the time playing the piano, Butterworth went outside into the yard at tho back of the club. Presently the sound, of a shot was heard, and on a search being made Butterworth '• was found bleeding from a wound m the head, inflicted by a bullet from a revolver, which was lying beside him. The man was removed to the hospital, where he lies m a serious state. Butterworth has one adopted child, » girl about four years old. DUNEDIN, this day. William Lawrence Hooper appeared at
j the Police Court this morning charged with having received adhesive stamps tc the value of £40. the property of thn Government, knowing Ihom to have been dishonestly obtained. Chief Deteclive Bishop applied for a remand, having to hrin ir v, witness from Wellington. He also announced that there were four other minor informations laid, not m dii'table— three for breaches of the Stamp Act and one for breach of the Post and Telegraph Act. Defendant's counsel entered a. plea of not guilty. A remand was granted till Friday next.
