DRINK AND ' STRIKES.
ADMIRALTY PROOF OF GERMAN PDOTTERS.
_ LONDON, -March 30. information in the possession, of the Intelligence Division of the Admiralty is regarded as affording conclusive proof that tliere is an extensive conspiracy' ■being carried out by Gorma^t Agents in this country to foment strikes among Avotknien in order to hamper the performance of war contracts. •Striking evidence on the subject has been obtained from Glasgow, , Oav<litf, Bristol, and Birkenhead, ' tmd investigations iirq- being actively pursued. The. methods adopted appear to be the employment' of paid agitators, who, carefully concealing 'their true motives and origin, mingle with workmen, in puiblicho uses and other places adjacent ao docks and workshops, and seek to persuade them of grievances with. a view to encouraging them to strike, or at least to waste time. s
These emissaries are plentifully supplied with money with which they stand' drinks to workmen, and the extent>ol this practice alone justified th© Intelligence Division in making a report to the Treasury that there was "definite- eyidenco of a. conspiracy on the pait of (Germans in> this country to increase the "gravity" of the drink question/' Then: may be a .further motive in the work of such, agents — namely, to acquire from the workmen who become their dupes information as to war work which would be of value to the enemy.
