THE SOUL OF FRANCE.
In the oourse of a, recent speech, M. Viviani, .Premier of France, declared that Germany was completely ignorant of the soul of Fiance, and was now suffering the punishment of her error. Germany thought to find before her a nation disunited and frivolous. She found instead a wall of iron and a heroic resistance, against -which she broke her best battalions. The French nation, misunderstood, and despised, has risen, prepared to add sacrifice to sacrifice. The punishment is being prepared. ..Millions of arms are about to be Jet loose. Like England, Russia, Belgium, and' Servia, France did not want war, but she will carry it on to the end \^6 are convinced sof victory, which will be the victory of justice. We want Europe liberated. Belgium free. We want the resitiition of the lost provinces and the crushing of Prussian militarism, for the peace of > the world i3 irreconciliable with • its bloody caprices. This is our task. We shall accomplish it, and to-morrow when we salute victory we shall have %vritten hi the annals of humanity a page ' which the sons of men will not be able to read without emotion and without pride.
