WELLINGTON, this day. The lsew battsilions will be known henceforth as the .Regiment, the Earl of Liverpool's Own, commenced going into esunp to-day. Large drafts of men are arriving from various parts of the country. Further batches go m to-morrow, and the remainder on Monday, bringing the new units up to their full strength. '
As the battalions comprising the infantry brigade of the main Nejiv Zealand Expeditionary Force were provided by the respective districts with brass bands a| hope is expressed that the Trentham liegimesst will not be overlooked by the public m this respect.'' Two battalions can be provided with hsind instruments and drums, for £300, which necessitates a contribution of only £75 fi*Q.ji each of the four military districts. The Fifth reinforcements have now reached the advanced stages; of , (heir training, and are» being thoroughly- tested. The four infantry companies- -were put '{through a -severe* ordeal, oil Thursray -and Friday, when they engaged m continuous operations foiv .'.3l_ hours, sleeping out at night and making an attack at dawn, during heavy rain, aiid, putting m lengthy marches. They came through, the ordeal with credit, and displayed |.a specially fisuv soldierly spirit. This morning they were sent out again on a 14-mile route march. Tests for ali ■inns will be continued next week.
