QUEEN CARNIVAL ELECTION.
Gladstone road was the scene of much animation this afternoon, when auction sales and competitions were m progress oil behalf of 'various queen candidates. At the Masoiijc hotel, corner Mr J. M. Samson was -auctioneering a miscellaneous-- collection of articles on behalf of the Cosmopolitan Club candidate, whilst at Miller's corner Mr G. K. Miller was selling sheep, poultry, preserves, etc., on behalf of the Friendly Societies' candidate. Tlie articles and other things offered sold oyer and over again and tho proceedings ' were still being carried on when we went to press. The Friendly Societies' sale realised £16 lis. An eight of an acre section m Awapuni ■ road, donated by Mr F. Hall, junior was sold for £72 to Mr .1. J. O'Donnell. The other gifts sold realised the fine sum of £32 2s 6d
