Power ransacked the house m search of a bag of gold dust, Avhich, with another bag containing £600. Mrs Ledwidge had hidden. ■ The bushranger twice severely beat the defenceless woman with his gun barrel for refusing to disclose the gold. He set fire to the house m three places, but Mrs LedAvidge put the fires out. Eventually PoAver, securing only £2 m money and a £20 cheque, fled, leaAring his victim bleeding on the floor.
