DEATH OF BRAVE WOMAN
(Press Assn.— By Telegraph— Copyright.* (Received July 10. 9.50 a.m.) SiDJNEY, July 10. The death has occurred of Mrs Ledwitlgc, aged 76 years, a link Avith the 'bushranging days. The bushranger Power, after escaping from Pentridge, stuck up the Ledwidge hotel. .Humula Ledwidge escaped, mounted Power* horse, .and Avent m search of the police. Power ransacked the house m search of a bag of gold dust, Avhich, with another bag containing £600. Mrs Ledwidge had hidden. ■ The bushranger twice severely beat the defenceless woman with his gun barrel for refusing to disclose the gold. He set fire to the house m three places, but Mrs LedAvidge put the fires out. Eventually PoAver, securing only £2 m money and a £20 cheque, fled, leaAring his victim bleeding on the floor.
