In the case* of males the rates of mortality arc markedly lighter for married persons throughout life m some important ages. The rates for single persons are 50, 60, and 70 per cent m excess of married persons of corresponding ages. In the case of females the opposite tendency holds. BetAveen the ages of 15 •and 44 years inclusive, the rate for married females ranges from 60 to 80 per cent, m excess of single persons. The selective influence m matrimony and the. consequent rejection of the unsuitables is considered an important factor, particularly m the case of males.
