MR WEBB'S ADVICE

The need for an. electoral arrangement with -other progressive elements was urged . by Mr Webb, as a Laborite, speaking to the no-confidence motion iv
Parliament last night. The member for Grey announced his hearty approval of Sir Joseph Ward's motion. '*! want Mr Massey to remember this," ■he said, "that before last eleotion he pleaded 'give me power and I'll give the Avorking classes a. square deal." I want him to remember that if political corruption followed m the trail of the second ballot, the corruption emanated from his side of thei House. He and his party had every available motor car for Messrs Veitch, Robertson, and Payne. Tho object was to uso these men, and then throw them on the scrap-heap. There is no alliance, 'but commonsense will decree that no mau with a progressive idea, m his head will be foolish enough to make it possible for a party to keep m power, though it has violated every pledge." Mr Webb drew hearty "Hear, hears" by declaring that • ho ' -would have great pleasure m voting out Masseyism, but, he added (and this time tlie Ministerialists laughed), that he lioped ulti- • matelv to rote the Social Democrats m.
