DROWNING FATALITY.
LITTLE BOY'S DEATH
A sad drowning fatality occurred on Kaiti late yesterday afternoon, the victim being John Dungi- Merton, aged four years ten;, months,- , son of Mrs Isabella Mertoh (widow), who lived with her mother, Mrs Kelly, at 82 Crawford road. ' It appears , that the little fellow was playing by himself m front of the house, and when his mother went to look for him she found him m the creek. When he was taken out; of the water there were signs of life m the body, but an effort to restore animation by artificial respiration failed. Dr Porter was sent for, and he arrived half an hour later, but could only pronounce life to be extinct.. Usually, therei is only a trickle of water m this creek, but lately .some children had constructed a dam for the purpose of backing up .the water to play with toy boats. Consequently I there was a depth of 3ft or 4ft of water m the creek, which ran through the section m front of. i the house, and over which was an .open bridge, from which deceased no doubt fell into the water. . An inquest was opened this afternoon before Mr R. S. Florance, S.M.,
