MATAWHERO STOCK SALES

The usual fortnightly stock sales were held at the Matawhero yards to-day, being the first since the flood. It was anticipated that there Would be a drop m the prices owing to, the flood and the bad weather, but- the high prices of last sales was fully maintained. There was only a small number of sheep that had to be sold owing to owners having no feed after the flood. There was a, shortage of stock, a large number not coming forward owing to the bad state of the roads. There was a very large attendance. ■ "

_ Messrs Williams and Kettle and. the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company offered 6000 sheep, 300 cattle, and 29 pigs. They commenced their sale with fat cattle. . There Avas a fair demand for good Equality lambs, anything of store quality being passed m. The sales were :. 1 fat cow £6 10s, 1 do. £4 10s, 2 bullocks £8 15s, 2 do. £10 10s, 3 cows £5, 1 vealer £2 13s, 1 do. £1 15s. Fat* .sheep .- Well-finished lambs sold woll as follows: 22 owes 14s 9d, 46 do. 14s Id, 14 do. 14s 3d, 30 do. Iss 3d. Pigs: The whole entry of 29 was easily disposed of, as follows: 3 pigs 20s 6d, 3 do. 21s, 2 do. 20s, 6 weaners 8s 6d, 4 do. Bs, 9 do. '8s 6d, 1 sow 355, 1 pig £2 6s. Store sheep were offered next. Competition was very keen, and high prices were realised. A line of store wethers realised 21s 7d, this being the record price foi* this season. Woolly hoggets brought up to 18s 3d, also a record for the season. Ewes m lamb made up to 20s 6d. Tlie sales were : 4 ewes 10s, 98 hoggets 10s 3d, 77 empty ewes lis 'ld, 127 ewes m lamb 14s Id 17 woolly hoggets 17s Id, 5 wethers 14s. 6d, 11 hoggets 8s 9d, 28 woolly hoggets 14r 6d, 31 ewes m lamb 12 s 4d,. 10 hoggets 12s 9d, 49 ewes m lamb 10s bd, 158 ewes m lamb 14s, 32 empty ewes 10s, 44 wethers 18s 6d, 54 ewes m lamb 13s 6d, 57 hoesrets 9s 6d, 84 woolly hoggets 13s 6d, 40 2 and 4-. tooth ewes m lamb 20s 6d, 150 empty ewes 16s 9d, 16$ fat and forward wethers 21s Id, 660 mixed hoggets 16s 7d, 309 store wetheis 21s. 7d, 159 forward ewes 17s 6d, 182 ewes and lambs 19s, 21 ©wee m lamb lis 6d, . 50 forward ewes 16s 4d, 10 ewes m lamb 6s, 40 empty ewes 14s 3d, 85 hoggets 14s 2d, 360 mixed hoggets 12s Id, 351 mixed woolly hoggets 18s 3d, 227 hoggets 16s 3d, 178 forward ewes 16s 9d. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. yarded 586 sheep and 100 cattle. They commenced their sale with fat cattle. Sloven cows sold as follows: 1 at £7 17s 6d, 2 at £5, 4 at "£6 15s. Store shepp were offered at 11 o'clock. There was only a small entry. The lines, M'hich were good quality stock sold as follows: 131 hoggets 13s' sd, 71 % and 4-tooth wethers 18s, 136 owes m lamb 17s 6d, 17 hoggets 15s sd, 237 woolly hoggets 15s. After the luncheon adjournment, Messrs Williams and Kettle, the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., and Murray, Roberts and Co. continued their sale with store cattle. There was a fair entry, bat a ja.rge number wero passed m. good-quality lines sold well. The sales were : 1 heifer £2 17s, B yearling steers £2 13s, 3 old cows £2 12s 6d, 1 cow and calf £4 19s, 3 heifers £3, 2 steers £3, 15 steers £5, 10 steers £3 lis, 5 empty cows £4 10s, 4 do. £4, 30 yearling steers £3 ss, 1 steer £1 15s, 11 heifers £3 2s 6d, 15 steers £3 7s 6d, 12 do. £2 15s, 12 heifers £3 ss, 8 mixed calves 30s, 15 steers £4 10s, 1 heifer 365, 15 steers £3 15s, 35 mixed weaners £2 6s.
