COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

The committee of the Competitions Society met last evening, there being present: Messrs E. H. Mann (m the chair), M. G. C. Pasco, W. Morgan. W. Hamilton Irvine, W. Rowell, A. E. Lawrence, R. Cole, P. , 0. Andrew, H. Howard Feilding, J. C. E. Kißsling, LI. Etherington, J. H. Bull, L. T. Burnard, W. Toomath, C. V. R. Harre, and the secretary (Mr F. R. Ball). Apologies were received from Messrs F. J. Rowley and G. T. Bartlett.

A suggestion that an association should bo formed with the object of standardising" as far as possible the competitions throughout tho. Dominion came before the meeting m a circular forwarded by the Waikato Society. The suggested steps to be taken were given as follows :— (aj That a list of approved judges bo drawn up, and ihat they lw asked to prepare a standard system of marking ; (b) that standard awards be, sa y (1) g°]d modal to the winning competitor who attains 85 per cent, of the possible marks, (2) 'badge to competitors who reach a standard, say* 75 per cent, of the possible ; (c) that money prizos be awarded by the respective societies according to their means ; (d) that the affairs or the associated' societies be administered from a centre by an executive committee of delegates. The executive would, among other things, (1) arrange dates for the different competitions, (2) select judges to adjudicate and feos to be uaid them.

The proposal was favorably -considered, and it was decided to inform tho Waikato Society that an endeavor would b« made to Bend a delegate from Gisborne if a conference wero held.

The various sub-committees submitted reports, which were adopted, with the exception that m connection with th-j programme committee's report it was de cidod to omit the impromptu debate. Tho secretary intimated that the syllabus would be ready for distribution by Friday or Saturday next, and that the book of words would bo available the following week.
