COASTAL TOUR

: (From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU, this day. The Hon. W. H. Herries, who arrived at Tokomaru Bay at 1 p.m. j'esterday, received deputations during the afternoon. Mr K. S. Williams, chairman of the Waiapu County Council, and Mr W. Oates, sen., approa-ched tho Minister regarding harbor matters. It was pointed out that the Harbor Board proposed spending £7000 on wharf extension, the plans for which had been approved by .the Marine Department. They wanted a loan of £4000, and asked the Minister fo assist them m the matter. The Hon. Mr Herries promised to do what ho could -on his return to Wellington. Mr W. Oates, sen., asked for an addition to the school. He pointed out that the school had been built eight years ago for 20 or 30 pupils, and now they had over 80 on the roll. There were two teachers teaching 80 children m one room, wlrich was "-not fair to children or teachers,. The, place was growing 1 fast, and another room was badly needed. The Hon. Mr Herries said he appreciated the position, and he would support the application when it came before the Education Department. Mr Oates also asked .for an addition to the post office. At present there were six officers, and there was hardly room for them to move about. The mails during the last three years had more than trebled. He also urged that a court house should be erected. They had a police residence m course of erection, and the time had arrived for a sitting of. the court to be held at Tokomaru Bay. The Minister promised to refer the matters to his colleagues under whose Department they came. , for favorable consideration. A Native deputation, consisting of Messrs Delamere, Newton, and Clark, approached the Minister for assistance m connection with their petition asking for a rehearing of Nos. 7 and 8, Mangawhinini block, and the Hon. Mr Herries promised to support the petition when it came before Parliament. The Ministerial party left at 3.20 p.m.. for Waipiro' Bay. and they expect to reach Te Araroa'in time to catch Saturday's steamer for Auckland. . v WAIPIRO, .this day. The Hon. W. H. Herries arrived here at 5.30 last night, accompanied by Messrs Johnston and Balnea-vis (secretaries), and Mr K. S. Williams. He was interviewed m the evening by a number of Maoris, -and left after breakfast this morning, intending to gb to Port Awanui. ■
