Giving evidence m the Dominion plumbers' dispute at the Arbitration Court, Mr George, director of technical education, Auckland, stated that he thought not 1 per cent of the apprentices at the -plumbing trade could pass the examination at the end of their apprenticeship unless they received special instruction, such as Avas given m the technical schools. The only substitute for an evening class Avas day training under Avhich boys would not be tired out as at present after eight hours' Avork. In Munich, where all apprentices up to 18 years of age Avere required to attend classes, the system turned out most successful, being heartily approved by employers who at first opposed the introduction of the system. The income for the fund for 1913 was £5861. Tlie capital account of the fund stands at £6288. The average interest earned by the fund was 54 per cent- The estimates for 1914 showed an income of £5982, and expenditure of £5523. The assessments were accepted, and ,a*rants made on the basis of these estimates. A deputation from the Council of Churches Avaited upon th© conference, and tho R_ev\ J. Heighway conveyed jrreetings. The Rev; J. Guy and the Hon. O. M. Luke responded on behalf of the conference. Unofficial intimation Avas received of the bequest of the late Mr Collison, of Hastings, of £1000 to various purposes of the church. It was resolved that an effort bo made to secure from the Victorian Conference a visit to NeAV Zealand from the Rev. Yalmbnt Trigge m 1915.
