A MONEY-LENDER'S NEW DEVICE.

A new illustration of the "up-to-date" methods o£ the money-lending trade (says tho London Times) is furnished by a letter forwarded to us. by a wellknown London business firm, which has branches m the important provincial towns. The proposal made m it is of so engaging «% character as to 'merit publicity, though we suppress the names on both, sides. The letter, which was addressed a few days ago by the moneylender, who describes himself as an "accountant," to one of the branches of the firm m question, is as follows: — - "Gentlemen, — I am acting for a wealthy syndicate which employs its spare capital m tho financing of shopkeepers throughout Great Britain, amd am writing you to respectfully suggest that youi forward me the names and addresses of any of your customers whose accounts you are- finding it difficult to collect. • "I would then negotiate a temporary loan for them (without your name entering into the matter, if desired), and advise yon on completion of same, when 4 ' you could, of course, readily, collect the overdue accownts. . ......
