WAVERLEY TRAGEDY.

The. coroner's verdict was one of wilful murder. •Jl At Waverley, .1 suburb of Sydney, on January 27, a boy named Mullan entered his parents' . room and discovered his mother m bed with her head frightfully battered and her one ear cut off. . She \Vas still alive then, but died at the hospital. The father ' was missing, but some hours later the proprietor of the baths at Ooogee saw Mullan jump from the rocks into the sea. He plunged to the rescue and came up with Mullan, who was raving about having killed his wife. After a desperate struggle of about twenty minutes the baths ' proprietor managed to rescue Mullai). Mullan and his wife and five children had lived happily. Mullan had suffered i from heart trouble and was under medical treatment, and it is presumed that m a fit of dementia he attacked his , sleeping wife. Though the family were sleeping m the room adjoining that m which the tragedy occurred they heard nothing.
