The Neva rose 6£ft. and only required to rise another six inches to flood the whole city. Guns fired at the fortresses throughout the night and green lights displayed at the Admiralty tower indicated the extreme danger, and traffic was stopped on the bridges. Tho gale whirled houses away and derailed waggons and overturned pedestrians.
