QUICK DESPATCH.
» , ■ SMART WORK AT GISBORNE. (Special to Herald.) . WELLINGTON, this day. There has Jjeen talk on the waterfront here over the, 'smart work accomplished at Gisborne on Saturday m connection with the unloading of the Anchor steamer Waimea, which left Wellington on Thursday for the northern port. Owing to the big load she had on board, also to the nature of the oargo (railway sleepers), /the vessel was not expected back until last evening at the earliest. Consequently her arrival on Monday caused some surprise. The captain reports that unloading operations were commenced at 8 o'clock on Saturday .horning, and at midnight the ship was empty, and ready to return, this despite the fact that the pick of the laborers were employed m loading a Home liner. The men commenced by slinging as many as six sleepers at a time, but afterwards "slowed down" to four.
