(Press Assri.— By Telegraph— Copyright.) (Received Sept. 2, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 2. It is understood that the Government intends to abandon a considerable number of measures, and the session will probably close before the end of the month.
The Government statistician estimates that the area sown m wheat for the current ' season is 3,731,000 acres, an increase of 863,698 acres compared with the previous year. It is anticipated that 3,136,000 acres will be reaped for grain and 594,450 cut for hay.
MELBOURNE, September 2. Returns show that the week-end and deferred cable systems are being extensively availed of, particularly by the press. Lord Denman, the Governor-General, was a competitor m the Oaklands Hunt Club point-to-point steeplechase. Although he rode well 'he was beaten.
BRISBANE, September 2. Bishop Sharp, who has returned- frori*; a visit to Papua (New Guinea) states that mission work is progressing steadily. The Anglican Church has three thousand converts m Papua.
