NEW GUINEA MURDER.

BRISBANE, Stpember 2. A wireless message from Port Moresby (Papua) on August ,29 reported that a German settler named Warner had been murdered by natives, and a party had gone out to investigate.

Details of the murder are now to hand. Warner was of German and American descent. He -was a prominent mineralogist. He left Sydney m July, accompanied by a young man named Windsor, intending to prospect for radium "m the interior of Papua.

After spending a week with the missionary at Meriapi, he departed, accom. panied by three native carriers. At the end of a couple of days Windsor took ill, and, .with one carrier, returned to the mission.

Warner pushed forward into unexplored country. The natives were hostile and attacked him. He defended himself till his .revolver was jammed. The natives, using slings, broke his arms. Then they killed him with spears, and cut off his arms ,as trophies. They burned the .body^ dancing round the fire.

The two carriers escaped. The missionary visited the scene; and found the charred remains. ■

A punitive expedition has been des patched.
