HAMILTON, last night. At the Supreme Court to-day, George P. Basker belle was acquitted on a charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged 14, at Te Aroha. Mr Justice Cooper described the verdict as an extraordinary one, and granted leave to appeal for a new trial. *

GREYMOUTH, last night. At the Supreme Court 'this afternoon, William Henry Frank Pitt was found guilty of false pretences by representing himself as agent for Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. and obtaining wool valued at £96. {Sentence . 'was deferred till the morning to get the probation officer's report. George William Richards was sentenced ,to two years for indecent assault on a boy.

NAPIIiK,, last night. At the Supreme Court to-day, Ernest Roland Birdling, charged with obtaining credit for £8 by falsely representing himself as a detective, pleaded guilty, and was ordered to come uip for sentence when called upon. John Ellis Smith, for demanding money under threat to dischargo a revolver, and for assault, was acquitted. George Watson Milne., charged with opening a postal packet, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
