J'er Press Association.)
WANGANUI, -last night. The battle cruiser New Zealand spent to-day m the roadstead. Great interest was manifested, and points of vantage at Castlecliff were crowded with spectators.
An official party boarded the warship on its arrival, presenting addresses from both pakehas .and Maoris, also gifts of game. The last-named included five deer, two swans, 32 brace of pigeons, a. hare, and 20 lambs. About 3000 school children came from all parts of the district specially to visit the warship, but though about a thousand were taken off m the Tutanekai a lumpy sea prevented the children 'boarding the New Zealand. The public also could not get aboard.' The sea increased as the day progressed, and caused very many cases of sea sickness. The tenders m use were of the most buoyant type, being greatly tossed about, while the spray drenched^ the passengers. Aboxit 2000 of the public circled round the New Zealand.
About 3.30 as the saa. had much increased, the Dreadnought sailed north, but Biihfjsqwently returned to witliin about 10 miles of Wanganui and gave a. splendid searchlight display. She then sailed for New Plymouth.
Among the favored ones to board the New Zealand were the collegiate school boys, and after a short inspection all returned, except one lad named Bloomfield, who was carried on to New Plymouth..
