LONDON,. May 12. lhe festivities of last week were overshadowed by the illness of the Duchess of Connaught. The death of the Dowager Duchess of Newcastle also had the effect of casting mucli gloom, for though she was not seen much m society, her death has cast many into mourning. The King is interesting himself m the work of the army, especially the development of aerial flight and bombthrowing.
The Prince , of' Wales is said to be greatly excited over his development as a full-fledged yachtsman. The old racing yacht Britannia is being put into commission again m order that the Prince may qualify for admission to the Royal Yacht Club. The Britannia, it is said, will be seen m. several of the principal regatta* this year, and the Prince will sail her himself at Cowes, where he will have to compete against the King' of Spain and the German Emperor. ''
