' (By Ella McFadyen.) ' "'/.. ... Oh, gently lift the dusty lid ; ' No dowry chest replete and wise, But store of faded vanities, That maidens make with love-lit eyes. She sleeps. Her life, so calm and chill, Gave little hint of tender things; And yet, with trembling hopes, . long since, Her fingers wrought these yellowed things. The cold white ashes of her life Were banked above a secret flame; Love lit . . . I , seem to hear his . feet ' _ Pass put . . |\ and then the grey years come.
