TERROR AT FUNERAL

SAN FRANCESCO, April 26. A terrifying experience, which caused the death of an old woman, befel the parents and friends who were taking part m the funeral ceremony of a baby m Butte, ' California, yesterday. A funeral service was being held over the body of the three-year-old son of Mrs J. Burney, and' the mourners were kneeling round the tiny coffin, the lid of which had not been screwed down, when there was a movement, and the body rose into a sitting position. The wide-open eyes of the child gazed straight into those of his grandmother, Mrs L. Smith, who was 81 years old. } The shock was too great for the old woman, and she dropped ■ back {lead.

Thel-ie'rrified mourners could not move for several seconds. Then the child sank into the coffin again, unconscious. A doctor was called, but the child died within an hour.
