_^_ — ,' ♦' I EX-SOLDIER'S END. | SYDNEY, April 2. / ! A sad story was disclosed at an inquiry m Melbourne yesterday touching the death of an ex-soldier named Jacksoli. '■<'.; Eric Ridgeway, who was with Jackson m an hotel bar when he died, said that he saw deceased mixing some white powder m a glass of soda water. "He tapped me on the shoulder," witness continued, "producing a pawn ticket for three war medals. ,He remarked : 'It's hard lines to come over here to do that. It's the third time I "have lost them. JI didn't think I'd get as much as 10s.' Deceased ; then w«nt and sat on a form, and . calling me over, remarked : 'I don't want to create a disturbance here. Get me -V policeman and ambulance.' The barman was informed, and a cab was obtained. Before il- came deceased sat up, and said,;;, 'Haye ..you .ever seen a man die? If not, you will see one now. He sat onythe "form; rthem fell on the floor, saying. 'Goodrbye, I am done now,' and shook hands. He alw- said something about his dear wife.' He was m convulsions m about two minutes, and turned again to the crowd, and paid : 'Good-bye. mates; good-bye, chum.' Then he died."
