Competition throughout the sale was ■ very animated in all sections, and the prices realised Avere, if anything, beyond expectations. American buyers Avere competing for ail lots suitable for their trade on the same limits as at the December sales. Owing to a great portion of the avool being tender in staple and impregnated with seed these buyers Avere not able to buy as much as they usually do at these sales. I Fine ' half-breds Avere very strongly competed for by Continental and Bradford buyers, Avho forced iocal manufacturers to pay high prices for the finer class of wools which are necessary for their trade. Best merinos were all sold under splendid competition, and, as usual, were secured entirely for the mills of the Dominion. Low crossbreds, although sold under very strong competition, Avere on an average of par to a farthing beloAv December rates, while pieces also sold at slightly loAver prices. As regards the condition of the wool it opened up in very nice condition, and on the AA-hole made a really fine display. ! The range of prices Avas as folows : — 1 1912. 1913.
