BISHOP AVERILL'S TOUR.

Bishop Averill delivered a most }m'pressive sermon to a large congregation on Sunday, December Ist, iri too Matawai Hall. An anthern wa§ $ung by Mrs Fielder. During his stay in Matawai Bishop Averiil was most hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs Ross. He left for Motu on Sunday afternoon, returning to Matawai on Monday afternoon. In the evening a reception was held in his -honor. . The following programme was opened by a duet (piano and violin) by Mrs Ross and Mr Evans :— -Song, "The Warriors," Mr Luttrell; recitation, "The Legend of St. Leonard," Mr Robinson; song, "She is far from the Land," Mrs Fielder.; , song, "The Trumpeter," Mr 'Randall; song, "A Soldier's Life," Master Jackie Ross; instrumental trio, Mrs Ross (piano), Mr Evans (violin) and Mr Blair (flute) ; song, "4- Perfect Day." Mrs Ross; song, "A Sail in a Piping Bree?e," Mr Mcßean; song, "Plymouth Ho," Mr Blair; recitation, "The Ancient and Modern version of |The House that Jack Built,' " Mr Robinson. Mrs Ross acted as accompanist during the evening. Short addresses were given by Messrs Robinson and <L B. Clark. His Lordship thp Bishop^g^ve a moat interesting and entertaining $<*- dress, which concluded th© programme. Mi^s Jean Marshall presented His Lordship with a b§autifui bouquet ot bush flowers, ferns, and carnations. The ladies of the parish provided a very dainty supper, and after the singing of "God Save the King" a pleasant evening closed.

A very enjoyable evening was spent at Te Karaka hall on Thursday by those who feathered to meet Bishop Averill and to lear his address on "The Holy Land." After a few introductory remarks by the Rev. Mr Meyer, his Lordship gave a most interesting account pf -his. visit to the principal places of interest iii an«|' around Jerusalem. I^lany places which were the scene of events chronicled in both the' Old and New Testaments were graphically described, and, thp lec'.uye, which' wa^ al" "tpo short, was greatly enjoyed by all present, During tho evening pianoforte splos were given by _4jss V. Ppwel" anc} Mrs, Symes,, spngs by Mi^ Ha'l aptf Mr F, Gai-dnep, and a recitation by Mr P, Sefton, Miss Cormaok ably accompanied the singers. Tea and cakes were handed round while his Lordship was making the acquaintance of those present, and dancing was afterwards indulged in till a late hour.
