At the parade of the A Squadron, 9th Mounted Ries, last night, Major Evans, commissioned by the officer commanding, presented Captain C. Hamilton with a twelve years' service medal.
A face that was missed at the Empire Day celebrations at Mangapapa scnool this afternoon was that ot the late Mr ,W N 'L.;iße;es;^ yeip's pastfi had -fstttetided ' on^such^ain. occasion and addressed •'.thef children !on Empire topics. At to-day's function the following resolution was passed : "That we, the children, teachers, and householders of the Mangapapa school district, assembled for the purpose of celebrating Empire Day and the birthday of our King, desire to place on record their sorrow at , the death of our beloved friend and benefactor, Mr W. L. Rees, who so materially helped our school at all times, and tnat the secretary of the school committee be asked to, convey to Mrs Rees and family this expression of their aud our great loss."
