SOHOOL FOR MATAWAI.
(To the Editor of the Herald:)
Si r,f Interested persons on reading the account of an interview with Mr Mac Donald, M,P., m your issue of last evening, would come to the • conclusion that nothing was being done by the Education Board m the matter of providing a school at Matawai. The position, sir, is this : Before making application for a grant for a building, it is necessary to have a suitable site. This the Board have for. wme time been trying to get, but as there was no freehold suitable to, purchase, the Lands Department has consented to -resume possession of two acres, of. the land held under lease by Mr MoTtleman at Matawai, and at the last meeting the Education Board were assured that this was being' done. As soon, therefore, as the site is available application will be made for a, grant, when we, trust that Mr Mac Donald, with I1& usual energy and good", nature, will push/ the powers that be to make a grant sufficient iiot only a school, but for a teacher's residence as well.— I am, etc., W, MORGAN.
