SCHOOL MATCHES.
I The local school cricket competition was continued this morning, when two y^ry interesting games took place, the finishes causing some excitement. ] Te Hapara v. Kaiti.^lu this game Kaiti had first knock, , and they , ran up a total of , 48, the best scores being Woods 17, Wilson 7, nnd Black 6. Seal took two wickets .for 12.1-iiiisS, Mcßrido; four for 23, and Mason three for 4. Tc Hapara responded .-with 37, Mcßride 11, Gregg 10, and Martin 8 being the top scorers. Maude and Winter shared the bowling, the former taking four for 19 and the latter four for 13. Upon going- in a second time Kniti fared disastrouslv before the bowling of Seal and Mcßride. The only batsmen to score wero Wilson (4) and Black (1), and with 9 for extras the innings closed for 14. • McJSride captured five ""wickets and Seal three. Te Hapara! batted more consistently in their second effort and- made 32, Seal' (l2) and Gregg (15) being the best scorers. Maude bowled well, capturing -seven . wickets , for. 10 runs; Winter took' two for 9, and Wilson ono for 5. Te Hapara I thus won by seven runs. > ." Gisborne v. Mangapapa. — Mangapapa went in first, and compiled , a total of 36, Lindsay (9), Hay (6), and Broadhead (6) being the chief contributors. F. Gartshore secured five wickets for 9 runs, Creamer four for 9, and Poi'ier one for 0. Gisborne made a good, stand, and their, first innings totalled 63. Gartshore batted nicely for 13, Porter made 10, Hooper 7, and Creamer 6. The most successful bowler was ; Lindsay, who took four wickets for 18 runs, whilst "Sawyer and Muir secured three each. Tn the second essay Mangapapa made the same total as in' their first innings. The top scores ! were Lindsay {12), Sawyer (11), and Muir- (6). Gartshore was the most successful trundlerjrhis tally. .being, six for 13. Cre_aje_ . secured- two 1 . wickets. ' When Gisborne went in they required 10 to' Sw in, ahd only had 10 minutes to get that .number.. There was .intenso excitement when the third wicket fell for, six. With good hitting Gartshore added another three, but time > was called before the total could be increased, . consequently Gisborne just secured a two-point . win -on the flrst innings.
