The wicket was good, but 'there was only a moderate attendance of the 'public. The attendance was 6000, and the weather and' wicket are ■ still perfect. There was notlp'ng attractive about the batting for a long period. Foster reached 50 after 90 minutes' play, when he was badly missed at mid-on by Smith off "Kyle. Foster then livened up slightly, and put in some pretty cuts ond glances. Foster was now getting attractive and stylish, and hitting on both sides of the wicket. He reached his. century for 134 minutes' play, and hit 12 fourers. He was caught in the slips the next ball. Ah expert's opinion, like that of McLaren, is tliat older players are preferable to so many young ones for a tour like the one to Australia When stumps were drawn for the day.
