The new institution ris designed on the ."unit system," and embodies the .very latest ideas iii, hospital,., building,'. and 'the ; architects have laid; the plans... of, au institution of which the district may well be'proud, and at which the unfortunate .'sjck • may .have the benefit, of . the very best medical and -scientific aid; It > will be erected' on a plateau at- Mangapapa, which affords -a splendid* situation. On the left will stand . A little further on again, the [ drive divides again, a tradesmen's entrance to 1 the domestic department of the institution branching dff to the left.. The hospital proper will be a single storey building of four units, joined together by a corridor about 300 ft m length. Arriving by the carriage drive one will, alight at the administration block. Entering the entrance .hall there .tis "-. tlje. > superintendent's, room, committee room, writing room, -dispensary, etc. The main, to the right takes one to the matron's quarters, ' o convenient suite, of four rooms, opening out on to, the women's court., Continuing along* the -corridor past the matron's quarters the children's ward-* will open, out on to the southern l end of the block. On the .opposite side of the corridor access will be gained to the womeri'dv medical". -ward unit, ' Comprising access to corridor, two single and 'one double, bed separation wards, nurses' kitchen, cupboards tor linen and patients' clothing, larder for .coal and wood and a main ward measuring 24ft .by 101 ft;. having a side \ verandah 10 feet wide facing the court and a 12ft verandah at the northern end, with access on either side to the', bat h-robmß* sink and other conveniences. Such forms one unit, of which there-are, four, rand they abut end on to the corridor, and /each unit has accommodation for 14 patients.. , Continuing then along the corridor one ;reaches the house-9urgeon's block, . for the , senior andk junior house -surgeons, with sittingrooms, parlors and accessories. The House surgeon's quarters are on. the south, and there are two>:.sihglet *'nß;one -threshed' spe&al' wards on the h6rthern.. -court, 1 which -, divides the two women's units from the two men's units. The I first men's,, ward unit reached .is the surgical ward. Opposite it, on , the other . side of the corridor, -is situated the operation department, ' comprising, an accident examination room, laboratory, X«ra^s room,- doctors', nurses' and instrument rooms,' sink room and sterilising Topm.:-' Further along the corridor, again, and .forming the second side to the men's court? •'will,- be situated the men's medical ward. Two ' entrances ase p^viUed whereby the night .nurses wi)l 'not be disturbed m their ! earned, rest during the^day. ( Altogether the, main Hospital provides accommodation for 136 patients. The structures throughout will be erected m brick. ■ The drainage is on the separate system, and/ the sewerage will he treated eeptically. It is considered to ,be t\\e best system possible. A' water-storage' tank with a capacity for 20.Q00 •gallops is .prodded, at>;au/elevat'on of 50' feet, "so that there will be ample pressure through* out. The hot water svsterii will be by a .-.power water boiler, with the service supple•wented by auxiliary cylinders to each unit. ■ .
