LIBERAL VOTES FOR HAILWAYS AND ROADS. (^SB^RNfi^NAPIER. RAILWAY VOTE * ' ' "'• £35,000. X (From Our : Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Public Works Statement will be tabled to-night.
The votes for railway construction, in-, eluding additions to open lines, total about, one million and a-half. ,;
.A feature of the North Island votes is the authorisation of expenditure of £15,---000 on the Waihi-Tauranga section of the Blast -Coast line. Work will start at the Waihi end.
There is also a vote of £35,000 for the Gisborrie-Napier line, and authorisation of work at the Naoier end. For the Gisborne end the vote will be £15,000 ; for the papier end, £20,000. For the Gisborne-Motu section of the East Coast line, £65,000 is voted, and for the Tauranga-Paevengao section £16,000, .... . .:■■ , , A vote of £120,000 is take*n for the North of Auckland Main Trunk. The Stratford-Main Trunk gets £100,000. Kawakawa-Hokianga £60,000, Huntly 4warua £20,000, Raetehi (new line) £15,000. ■ , . The statement refers to the development of hydro-electric power m the Dominion, and intimates, that immediate steps will be taken to harness the Wairua Falls, Whangarei, and Waikaremoana. A vote of £50,000. is made on account Vof water-power development. The roads votes total £60,000. Provision .is made for the erection of new Departmental buildings at Gisborne. . .-■
