, HOSPITAL STAFF
At the meeting of tho Hospital Board last night the subject of nurses came up at, several points. When the children's ward was mentioned,* Dr. Wilson incidentally remarked that tho staffing of it would be a matter for consideration. Later on the resignations of Sisters Walsbe, Paterson and Brewer, and probationer Devery came before the Board. — Mr Tiff en asked what was the reason of 'all these resignations? Was it that the salary waa insufficient — Tho Secretary said that when the nurses had fully qualified they found that they could do better outside. — DV. Wilson said it went further than that. There was a general shortage of nurses, and other districts had found considerable difficulty m filling vacancies. The question of children m the wards, an mentioned m one letter, was ono of tho points, bearing on tho subject. — Mr Tiff en pointed out that it had been de cided to have a children's ward — that was prior to that resignation being sent m. It was mentioned that one nurse was leaving m order to get married.— Members agreed that that was a Very good reason. — Mr Tiffen asked if tho shortage could not be got over by tho appointment of more probationers — Dr. Wilson pointed out that only a certain number could be taken at a time. — Mr W. D. Lysnar said he anticipated that there would be much greater difficulty m staffing the new hospital, owing to the distance that it would bo from town. — Rev. W. Lamb : Oh, no ; they will prefer tho now place. They will get to like it so that they* will not want to come away from there. — It was mentioned that there would be a tramway up there.*— Mr Lysnar said there would be about three-quarters of a mile still to travel. The subject was dropped. At a later stage the Beard confirmed the action of Dr. Wilson, m securing the assistance of two relieving nurses during a heavy rush of patients to the hosnif, a .l.
