Williamsou's Katherille (hey Company during a three nights' season commencing on Wednesday night next, are said" to be the greatest and most powerful dramatic sensations staged during recent years. Love, the most potent of weapohs, overcomes the power and influence of the richest man m the world. This is the basic theme -of "The Lion and the Mouse," which is by the famous American artist, Charles Klein. The vital element centres m the beautiful daughter of a Supremo Court Judge, who is being driven to the wall with impeachment and disgrace ns the result of bis rulings, which ale averse to the interest of an unscrupulous money king. To save the honor of her father and his life, the daughter enlists liei* services against this nriailclal giaflt; and the plot reveals a keen struggle betweetl tile two for mastery. The success attained by "The Lion and the Mouse" has never been duplicated either m Europe or America. .It made for the author m royalties £140,000, and for the American producer- almost double that' amount. Special inducements were offered to Miss Grey to come to Australia, to portray the character of Shirley Rossmore, and Mr Williamson was also fortunate m his engagement of Mr William iDesmond, as Sydney critics have declared that not for many years has a greater or more versatile actor visited Australia. .Only one representation can be • given of *'The Lion and tho Mouse," -and on Thursday next "The Third Degree" will be staged. The idea of the "Third Degree" came to the author, Charles Klein, while reading m a newspaper at Marseilles, France, of the voluntary confession of a man confined m the Joilet Penitentiary., by which he declared him^ self guilty of a crime for which' another had been hanged several years previously. In the play young Howard Jeffries is arrested for a murder ho did not commit. The police put him under the pressure of the third degree, and m his mortal agony he confesses to the crime. The company will make their final appearance here on Friday m Kugene Walter's sensational dramatic triumph "Paid m Full." The qualities of human interest m this piece, it is said, lift it far above the host of . stageland artificialities of our time. The plans for the three productions are now open at Mr W. Miller's.
