PUHA SCHOOL PICNIC.

■» " « The annual picnic of the Puha school waß held on Friday, February 10th, m a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Messrs Standridge and Booth. A large number of parents and" children ! were present, and a most enjoyable day was spent. Tho weather was cool and pleasant, and, though a few slight showers fell, there was plenty of shelter un- ; der the trees. After lunch races under the supervision of Messrs Spence, Standridge, and Briant were quickly despatched, child m the school getting a prize for running. Theorizes, of which there was a splendid" assortment, were selected by Mr McGregor; During the afternoon prizes for the school work done last year were presented by Mr Spence, chairman of committee, who complimented fortunate children upon ' their industry and. perseverance. The senior girls who are leaving school took tho opportunity to present Miss Morgan with a silver-backed hand mirror and hair brush as a mark of esteem. Ix>llie scrambles and games followed, and after afternoon tea the happy crowd dispersed, all being loud m their expressions of satisfaction at the day's enjoyment. Thanks / are due to the ladies of the district for their splendid catering, which left nothing to be desired. In the evening a well attended social was held m the schoolroom, the proceeds being devoted to the school funds. PRIZES.
