DeCosta, The weather was dull for the opening ' of the Poverty Bay Turf Club's annual meeting, which took place at the tya**' karaka racecourse to-day. There was a good attendance. As usual, Mr D» R. DeCosta performed his secretarial duties m a capable manner, the arrangements leaving nothing to be desired. The entries for all events are most satisfactory : and some good racing ensued. - The : Hon. J. Carroll was present. Mr Is. Wootton provided an excellent luncheon. In the early pari of the race he was followed by Scorch, Eiya, and Firat Marshal, m that order* but after entering the straight Manupat dashed out on the outside and secured second place, beating Eiya by a couple of lengths.
