PLAYING AT SOLDIERS.
A BOY'S DEATH. . (Per, Press Association.) NAPIIjR, this day. Fred. Baker, eight yearsT of age, die<l at the 'hospital under circumstances rendering an. .inquest necessary. Deceased had been playing at soldiers, and received a thrust from a stick m the abdomen. Next day he was taken seriously ill, and Was conveyed to the hospital, 'where he died. A post mortem revealed that death was due to peritonitis, due to a twisted bowel, and the stick thrust was m no way responsible tor the death. The inquest was. adjourned for further evidence. -The Napier Telegraph states: A lad na-med Fred. Baker, eight years of age. while playing at soldiers at Mahora school, near Hastings, received, it is alleged, a thrust m the body from a stick. The lad apparently suffered internal injury, because lie developed considerable pain, und he gradually got ;?vorse, until yesterday it was found necessary to remove him to the Napier hospital. Every attention was paid to him, but despite all that could- be done lje. gradually weakened, and succumbed this .morning. Much sympathy is felt for the poor little lad's parents, who had another son kicked by a horse some time ago, the details of Much, came out at the subsequent Court proceedings.
