RINKING.
In spite of counter-attractions the Garrison Hall was again crowded with skaters last night, a large proportion of the audience being ladies. During the evening tlie management allowed two novices to decide a race as to which was the faster, .tkater, and an amusing race was run, fending by an easy win for Mr McLean, 'his opponent falling at the lastlap. The competition for Dr. Collins trophies has brought ont a large number of competitors, so that the rink are ahso presenting a, second and third prize. The competition will take place on Saturday night, as the management have been asked to avoid clashing with another entertainment held on Thursday night. The,' ladies who are competing will all skat« at the same time. Tomorrow night the management have allowed two private races to be run off, one between the ten boarders of a wellknown, establishment, and the other between fourteen Civil Servants who are deciding who' is the champion on skates. As these two races will bo run off m one heat each, and most of the competitors are novices amusing races are expected. To-night rink is to be open at Te Karaka; but will be open all day to-morrow at the Oai'rison Hall. Following are the handicaps for the Bella Vista race, to be run on Wednesday night at the Garrison Hall:— H. Muir scratch, F. Withers syds, J. Battesby 15yds, A. Myers and A. Famous 20yds, P. Carmody and B. Lewis 50yds, E. R. Brown 60yds, H. Stephen and W. Collingwood;! lap.
