A meeting at Broken Hill ToAvn Hall, called by a Socialist group . to protest against fostering the military spirit, led to a strong counter-demonstration ending m a free fight and interference by the police. The voices of the speakers were droAvned by the singing of patriotic songs. The furniture arid fittings of the hall suffered considerably during the rough and tumble. When order Avas restored the counter-demonstration carried a resolution, faA'oriiig the defence movement for citizen soldiery.
