DUNEDIN NEWS.
♦■ , ' (Special to Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day.. Mr J. H. Lang, ono of the' divinity students, who has just completed his course at Dunedin, is about to leave for Ohristchurch fpr a term, having been appointed to relieve for a twelve month tho Rev. John McKenzie (of St. Andrew's), who is going Home for a Irip. Mr Lang took a prominent part in university football, and he will be remembered as the first student in charge of the St. Glair Presbyterian Church. For a while ho was in India. His many friends will be pleased to hear of his appointment to such an important ■charge as St. Andrew's, even though it is only temporary. ' .-,' ' ! ,' Criticism of the most pungent character was turned upon- the Educatioii Department yesterday, by the aggrieved Education Board, whose members are debarred from taking part in the general conference on* -education" in Wellington during the month of February. It was spoken of as a scandal that the elected representatives of tbe people, whose experience gives them' a. knowledge allegedly not possessed by the experts who will form the conference, should be deliberately excluded from an important national discussion. Mr Mitchell went so >far as to describe the conference as a cloak to hide the department's designs, and to fortify tho Inspector-General in the pursuit of error. It ? .is now quite possible that the Otago Board will seek tho co-operation of other Boards to hold a special conference, ancl that, . too, whether the Goverhmihit assist them or not. ■MMMannMi.
