' In the' co'urse of an interview yesterday with a member of the Press, Messrs HI Hay ward (Pathe pictures) and Reed Peterson ( World- W^de pictures) .express* ed their surprise at the resolution passed by the Burgesses' Association, directing the attention of 'the.'lns'pector of Police to the questionable • character of some of the pictures . exhibited "in Chridtchurch. They emphatically, denied that any such pictures had- y ever been, by them. . It was pointed ou^t that matinees had been, given "'for some months past oh Saturdays.' and. were largely attended, mainly by ladies and children. The pictures exhibited .= on these occasions were the , current ; ones shown , every . night. Not 'the slightest, complaint whs over mode, there 'oeing hp^oyiusnon for such. On the" contrary,' letters 'liad .been re : ceiyed from *thoso in- charge of various institutions, the children from which had b,een admitted to see thc.pictureivspeakiflg inhightermH of praise of the charactor 'of the pictures. A very largo proportion of the pictures dealt .with .industrial work, conveying sound and-use-ful instruction" as. regarded the world's workl Scenery from . all parts of i-he world, also formed a good part of the pictures. In the .dratnatic portion 'the subjeetV illustrated the punishment of vjcp and the rewarding of -honesty and virtue. To say, that any pictures' of a questionable nature were ever shown wns a' statement which was tptalfy deypid of truth, and this; could .be substantiated by ' the thbuiiarids' of people whq every \ye*ek attended the '. shows/ Both managers asserted ' that the utmost care' "was exercised by 'them to obtain only films of a character that .would entertain and Instruct. '
