(Per Press Association.) XAPIER, last night, The auxiliary schooner Tuhara, of 97 tons," which was blown ashore while at anchorage at Kainikini, near Long Point, Mahia Peninsula, is reported to be practically & total wreck. Captain MoNab remains near the scene of the casualty. The remainder of the crew , arrived m Napier this evening. E; Goodall and A. Newman, A.B.s, said that owing to the heavy sea and strong wind the Tuhara anchored m the bight of Long Point on Saturday night. Early on Sunday morning one of the anchors carried away. The engines were kept going full speed ahead, but the vessel araggeti her remaining "^ anchor. This was lost at daybreak, and : - the vessel was,. dTiven broadside on to the rocks, and she became fixed where she struck. The crew, who had put on lifebelts, managed to launch the lifeboat, and a line was taken ashore. The crew stood by the ship for a while, and then got their things, and went to Mr (ieorge Ormond's station, where they were treated with great kindness. Goodall and Newman describe the sea as of a mountainous character, and say the crew bad a narrow escape. It was lucky for them that they were driven ashore m daylight, instead of during the night. The Tuhara has a cargo of 12,000 ft of timber for Messrs Pemberton and Davis, Wairoa, and a consignment of coal for Mr T. Bax. Wairoa.
