According to thfe police, Sinclair's assailant has •• been recognised by finger print as John Frederick Crook, or Croke, a recent arrival from New Zealand. There are several convictions against him. Constable Gates, who showed such pluck, and was so badly handled when arresting the prisoner, • is also_a New Zealander. Coristable Gates received iirimediato promotion as a reward for bravery. .
