"FLEET WEEK" IN AUCKLAND.

MAKING PREPARATIONS,

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The announcement that the American Fleet is to visit New Zealand and make Auckland its port of call m the Dominion has been received \vith much gratification m the city. It is certain that the visit will be made the\occasion a carnival week m Auckland. Carnivals have already been held m Rotorua and Napier, and tho Auckland carnival, it is anticipated, wfll be something on a large scale, which will attract visitors from all parts of the Dominion. Naturally accommodation will be . m great demand, andl already . telegrams have been received at hotels and boarding houses, booking 1 rooms for the week during which the American Fleet is expected to be m the Waitemata harbor. These messages have come from other centres m New Zealand, so that it is evident Auckland may expect a very large influx of visitors, not only from its own great country popnlatipn, but also from other provinces. Probably from 20,000 to 30,000 visitors will come hero and join m tho great greet- 1 ing to be extended to the American officers ■ and men, : and 'through" them to the American nation. Excursion fares by rail. and seri, are expected to be provided to enable visitors from all parts of New Zealand to participate m the welcome. It is assumed that as a matter of course that Parliament will adjourn '-during' "Fleet Week," m order that members of both Houses may participate m the festivities, and it; is suggested that as the gap . between the rail heads of the Main Trunk line will be comparatively short, the members of Parliament shonld be conveyed m a body over the railway^ thus enabling our lawmakers as a. Whole to gain a good idea of the country m the North Island!. An "Early Settlers'" demonstration is also suggested.
