FATAL FIRE.
•'■ WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr Pennycook's ten-roomed house at Balclutha was burned down at midnight. Pennycook rescued his children and thought his wife was following, but she evidently became asphyxiated. Her charred remains were found two hours later. The building was insured for £350 m the London and Lancashire, and the furniture for a like amount m the Norwich Union. GORE t this day. A fatal fire occurred at . Balclutha last night. Mrs Penny oook, wife of Mr W. S. Pennycook/ one of .'the proprietors of the Ciutha Leader, waa burnt to death. The family retired at 9.45, and tlie place was m flames when they woke at midnight. Mr Pennycook saved; the four children and thought his wife was following him out.. When he discovered she had not- done so, he attempted to re-enter, but the ..flames beat liim ,,J>ack, and others arriving pulled liim out m a. dazed condition. Tlie building was of ten rooms, and was insured for £350, and the furniture for the same amount m the London, Lancaslure and Norwich Union offices.
