MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.

The-'fortnightly, stock sales were conducted .at the Matawhero saleyards today, selling commencing as usual at 11 a.m.' Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., Ltd., arid Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd. yarded about 3000 sheep. The sale went well at the start every tiling selling, but after the first half-dozen pens were offered there was a lull, as the bidding did not reach a figure sufficient to induce vendors to part with their stock. Mostly fat heavyrweight wethers and ewes and lambs were passed m. Cattle: About 200 head of cattle were yarded, mostly old cows. The sale was brisk throughout,. and almost every hoof sold under-; the hammer. , Six calves brought 255, 1 heifer 355, 2 jieifers and 1 steer 3Gsy,l cow m full profit £3 ss, 1 steer -84 10s, 64 cows (with 51 calves at foot) £2 10s, 42 dry cows £2 10s, 22 weaners • 34s 6d,\ 13 weaners 14s. Pigs: There was a small entry, 14 suckers selling at 14s. Messrs Williams and Kettle and the N.Z. Loan.and Mercantile .Agency, Company, Ltd., yarded about 7000 sheep. The sale commenced with the small pens of fat. There appeared, to be a better demand for light weights, wliich sold readily, tlian if or the heavier classes. After lunch the sale became more spirited and comparatively few'pens were passed in.' There was still a good demand for hoggets, which sold at from lis 6d for small ones to 19s for well finished sorts. Shorn hoggets brought 13s 6d. Ewes and lambs did not go off so well, although some splendid.lambs were offered. The prices ranged from 19s 3d to 265. Fat ewes sold at 15s 6d to 18s 9d, and wethers from. 22s 9d.
