EXPRESS TRAIN DERAILED.

(Per Press Association.) GORE, this day. The northern express was derailed today on the Gore side of Waipahi, through running over a cow. The engine left the rail** fifty yards before one of the many bridges on this section was reached!, but •was brought to a standstill within three yards, had it toppled over the steep embankments at the place of tlie accident the result would have been disastrous, as the train was crowded with holiday freight. As it- was there was but little damage, consisting of the cowcatcher bar being broken, and a plate fractured. With the help of the passengers the engine was got on to the rails and proceeded after a delay of twentyfive minutes.
